1.0: SimTunes Player Files

These files were created using a program called SimTunes, created by Maxis. They are standalones and will not need any external application to run.

Note: I don't know if these files will work on Windows 3.x. If someone finds out, let me know using the E-mail Me link on the front page. They are guaranteed to work under Windows 95+.

1.1: Playback

1. Click on the link to download the SimTunes file. When your browser asks you what to do with it, click Save and put it in the directory where you want the SimTunes Player application to be installed.
2. Run the file you just saved. It will unload its files into its directory and start playing.
3. The install file creates a new .exe file after its first run. You can now use this file to launch the SimTunes Player app whenever you want. You won't need the install file any more, so you can delete it if you want.

To remove the SimTunes Player app from your computer, simply delete the .exe file and the files it created. No special program necessary!

You can save space on your disk by installing all your SimTunes Player apps to the same directory, however this makes deleting them tricky because you don't know which file goes with which apps. You can always safely delete an .exe file without affecting other apps.

2.0: Fishsongs

Fishsongs are plain text files with a special musical language inside them, and they will need an external program of some sort. They are called "fishsongs" because the first program to use them was a computer game involving fish called "Insaniquarium Deluxe".

2.1: Playback

Right-click the download link and click "Save Link/Target As...". A "Save As" dialog box should appear. Browse to the directory where you would like to save the file and click "Save". Then use an external program of some sort to start playing it.

Programs for playing fishsongs, as well as instructions for creating your own and a zip file with more fishsongs, are available on this page.

2.2: Using in Insaniquarium Deluxe

You can have these songs played in the Virtual Tank mode of Insaniquarium Deluxe. If you don't have it, you can download it from PopCap Games.

When saving a fishsong as described above, browse to the location where you saved Insaniquarium Deluxe, and save it in the "fishsongs" directory. The file may now be played at random by a fish purchased in the Fish Emporium that Meryl describes as a "musical genious". Some fish described as "extremely rare" might play fishsongs, too.

You may have a fish other than a "musical genious" fish play these songs as well. To do this, open the fishsong in a text editor, create a new line after the first line, and type:
- *attrib kilgore for Kilgore
- *attrib beethoven or *attrib beethovenrare for Ludwig
- *attrib santa or *attrib santarare for Santa

For more information on the fish you can buy in the Virtual Tank, please read the Virtual Store Guide.

3.0: MP3 Files

MP3 files are compressed music files supported by most popular media players, including RealPlayer and iTunes. How you play them depends on your computer setup. Generally, you click their link, save them to your computer, then double-click the file.
